HBD Baby JC

The inspiration for this piece came back in the summer while on a walk with my kidlets.  We walked past a backyard with a pileup of kids on a trampoline.  Each one of the kids had some form of mobile device and despite the fact that they were all so close that they were making physical contact in one way or another they were communicating via said devices.  I made the kids stop and watch as they giggled and snorted,  and commented on each others comments they made.  I advised the children that this is the epitome of everything I don't want them to do when they grow up.  We stood there for a good few minutes and when we left they had still not noticed we had been there, as they were so engrossed in their cyber world.

I was looking to find a holiday piece to mutate, and stumbled across this one in a Salvation Army Thrift Store on my way home from work one evening.  I knew I could do something with the piece, but couldn't decide what so I put it back.  Of course, as soon as I was halfway home it dawned on me what was needed.  I fretted the rest of the evening and the following day that when I returned the piece would be gone.  (It's happened before).  It was still there upon my return thank goodness.

Anyway, I present to you 'HBD Baby JC', my take on what Christmas means in 2012.  Alternate titles for this piece included: WiFi in this manger sucks, and Baby Jesus invites you to play Farmville!'.

Happy Holidays, no matter how you celebrate...do it safely and responsibly.

What To Expect When You're Resurrecting

The resurrected infant needs extra care and attention.  You must remember that it's jaw muscles and teeth (if they've come in yet) are not strong enough to chew through tough bone or muscle.  Start it on a diet of glutimus maximus or belly fat.  Breastfeeding is an excellent choice to provide nutrients to your zombie child. When he or she gets a little older you can spoil them with a bit of the brains too, as a reward for good behavior of course!

I had the hardest time turning that pot into a baby.  Proportion can be difficult when your pieces are so small and you're trying to work around an pre-existing part of the original sculpture.  I had the same problem with Boppo The Clown and Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Bombers.  I know, there's a boob in the picture.  I told myself when I started that while my pieces would be gruesome I would stay away from being crass...but it's a non-sexual boob and it helps with the joke of how to breastfeed a zombie baby so I'm making an exception this time.

I'm donating this piece to a contest http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=360660954028191&set=a.246880348739586.57530.246879415406346&type=1&theater both as my submission to win an original painting by David Irvine of gnarledbranch.com but also that he can give it away as a consolation prize.  To enter for the contest yourself all you have to do is 'like' the monsteraday facebook page which you will do anyway once you see how awesome it is...and submit to David an original piece of Hallowe'en inspired craft/artwork etc. you've done yourself.  Deadline is October 31st at 10pm so get working! and good luck!

Again I apologize for the duration between pieces...it feels like we've been so very busy, and yet I couldn't really tell you what I've done!  I'd like to tell you the next one will be quicker but I'd likely be wrong.  I'm glad I got this out before Hallowe'en though.

Hope you have a safe and happy Hallowe'en, haunt responsibly.

SIlly Puppy

I'm pretty sure this is the same baby that's now riding the bomb.  I don't mean to pick on this poor child in particular...but the artist (who doesn't put his/her name on any of their pieces) just makes it so easy!

Every step of this particular piece had me second guessing my abilities.  I was terrified I was going to ruin it and that this idea would never come into fruition.  I had to make the facehugger twice, as the first time it wasn't flexibly enough and fell apart as I tried to attatch it.  The second one I attatched the pieces as I built them, but that left we with some difficult angles to get my paintbrush through so the paint job (particularly on the suction part) is a bit off.  Also because of the 'green stuff' I use i was concerned that the paint wouldn't sufficiently cover, but it all came together in the end and to be honest I think this has usurped 'Pre-Emptive Strike' as my new all time favorite mutation.

Hope you enjoy, don't tell Ridley....

At Long Last!

Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Bombers

I thought I had much better before pictures of this one, but apparantly I had a brain fart.  She was originally sitting on a very large baby bottle.  The process of mutating that into a bomb was an difficult one and very time consuming as I needed to wait for clay and glue to dry.  I'm still not crazy about how the bomb turned out but I'm still fairly happy overall with the piece.
Thanks again for being so very very patient and I will do my best to keep the time between pieces much shorter in the future.
Precious Mutations also now has a facebook page of it's own, please come by and gimme a 'like' and then you will be notified of all that's being mutated.
